The Triangle Bruno Munari, 1976

From the plant structure of coconuts to the pattern of human settlements according to Le Corbusier, the shape of the equilateral triangle is found, in nature as well as in man's creations, in a multiplicity of different cases. Basic geometric shape with the circle and square, the equilateral triangle lends itself to modularly combining and generating structured fields in which infinite other forms can be constructed; from classical Arabic and Japanese decorative art to contemporary architecture of Buckminster Fuller and Wright, the knowledge of the equilateral triangle in all its aspects and its formal and structural possibilities has given rise to curious and evocative results and experiments.

Bruno Munari (1907-1998) was an Italian artist, designer and inventor. "Since his very first experiences in the 30s among the artists of the Second Futurism, he always dedicated his creative activity to every form of “experimentation”, with a particular attention to the world of children and their games and toys. Never separating content from form and materials, what he designed were at once books, book-objects and games that would make us think."
